SHF (Sutherlands) launches new Pietermaritzburg showroom

Contributing decor editor Candice Botha delights in the stylish new SHF (Sutherlands) showroom in Pietermaritzburg, KZN

Sutherlands has undergone a makeover and has a fresh look and several new ranges of gorgeous furniture pieces and accessories, which I’ve been drooling over for months. Now called SHF, the company plans to double the number of showrooms by 2018 and Pietermaritzburg, founder Craig Steel’s hometown, is the first to boast two new stores this year. The next store opening is in Kramerville, Johannesburg in November this year.

We joined the SHF team at the launch of the Pietermaritzburg showroom and were treated to champagne and canapés in front of a roaring log fire.

It was fascinating to hear Craig talk about the history of the business. Paul McCabe of Mattland Holdings then outlined the future plans for SHF, which include stores in Bloemfontein and Cape Town. I was interested to hear that although they have a range of imported furniture, the majority of SHF’s products are locally produced as the company is proudly South African.

Councillor Bill Lambert had the honour of cutting the ribbon while Craig looked on and, after much anticipation, we entered to explore the new showroom.

A truly fabulous space, it has been beautifully styled and there are loads of ideas to steal for your home whether it’s classic or more contemporary. I will definitely be back for a dose of inspiration! I have a weakness for pendant lights and chandeliers and there are plenty to covet here. I also loved the sophisticated mirrors, gorgeous scatter cushions and variety of accessories.
