WAX flowers, also known as Chamelaucium, are beautiful, delicate flowers with evergreen leaves and long-lasting blooms. Their small flowers can add a lovely splash of colour to any garden, and the leaves have a fresh, slightly aromatic quality to them.  

Although WAX flowers are hardy once established, they do best when their basic needs are understood. With plenty of sunshine, well-drained soil, careful watering, and a little pruning, you can enjoy a healthy plant covered in flowers. 

Choose the right spot 

The first step to growing healthy WAX flowers is choosing a good location. Chamelaucium plants enjoy plenty of sunlight, so a nice garden spot that receives several hours of direct sun each day is best.  

A sunny position also encourages stronger growth and better flowering. If you are growing the plant in a container, place it somewhere on a bright and sunny balcony. 

Good air circulation is also helpful. Avoid squeezing the plant into a crowded corner where moisture can remain around the foliage for long periods. 

Give it well-drained soil

One of the most important things to remember about WAX flowers is that they dislike sitting in wet soil. 

Use soil that drains freely. Heavy clay soil can hold too much moisture around the roots, which may lead to root problems. If your garden soil is heavy, improving its drainage before planting can make a big difference. 

For container-grown plants, always use a quality, free-draining potting mix and make sure the pot has drainage holes.

Water the flowers properly

Newly planted WAX flowers need regular watering while they establish their root systems. Water deeply, then allow the soil to dry somewhat before watering again. 

Once established, Chamelaucium plants are relatively drought-tolerant. One common mistake is watering too frequently. WAX flowers generally cope better with slightly dry conditions than constantly soggy roots. 

Feed your flowers gently

WAX flowers don’t usually need heavy feeding; excessive fertiliser can encourage lots of leafy growth without necessarily producing the best flowers. 

Just light fertiliser application during the growing season can support healthy growth. 

The best thing about growing WAX flowers is seeing your flowers come into bloom. The delicate flowers can make the whole plant look cheerful and colourful, especially with the new Spring season coming.
