Easy flower arranging tips

Phern Calvert of SilvaSale shares her easy flower arranging tips.

This clear vase shows off the green stems in the arrangement, giving it a modern romantic air. “The stems bring structure to the composition,” says Phern. “I organised them in a tight and low shape, tapering up towards the back to soften and balance the green. I used white florist’s tape to hold the front setting in place while I arranged the back.”

Phern used garden roses as a base and added cockscomb and carnations in between. “This went perfectly with our chef’s Red velvet swirl brownies, and the little bunny adds a touch of playfulness.”

TIPS:

  • Experiment with low arrangements, but remember to balance the shape with ornaments or crockery placed on different levels.
  • Take photographs of your tablescape with your smartphone to get an idea of the entire layout. You’ll notice empty spaces on the photographs straightaway.
  • Bring in vintage items like old gloves, teacups and silverware to add romantic flair.
