“The owners were clear that they wanted a light, bright and simple look with a strong connection to the stunning beach views,” says architect Patty (Patty Price Architects 082 377 7001 or From an early stage she collaborated on the interior design with Mark Finney and Graham Viljoen of Fabricate Design. “Fittings and finishes were used to create warm and easy social spaces and to blur the boundaries between the interior and outdoor living areas. With the kitchen relocated we used the opportunity to open it up to the terrace for seamless entertaining and magnificent views,” Mark says.

The harsh western sun on the sea-facing windows and terrace proved to be a challenge. Here Mark and Graham came up with a retractable pergola and matching sliding shutter screens by Rivets and Rockets.

The bungalow is now a relaxed, airy family holiday home with a logical flow between living areas and a strong connection to the beach.
