On Saturday, 25 November, the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel & Spa in Constantia will open its magnificent gardens to the public, hosting a fundraising event to benefit St Luke’s Hospice.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in an enchanting garden experience, wandering at their own pace through the sprawling nine-acre landscape. The gardens, renowned for their views of the Table Mountain range, are a trove of botanical wonders.

From the Picnic Garden and Hohenort Lawns to the beautifully structured garden adorned with blooming flowers, serene water features and tranquil ponds, every corner offers a visual treat.

A highlight of these gardens is the Formal Rose Garden, home to the Liz McGrath Rose, a unique hybrid created in 2003 to honour the 80th birthday of Mrs McGrath, the founder of The Liz McGrath Collection. The rich history of the estate is further illustrated by the ancient camphor trees in the forest section, some dating back 300 years.

In addition to aesthetic pleasures, the gardens serve a practical role, hosting various eco-zones such as herb, vegetable and citrus gardens. These areas are vital in providing fresh produce for the hotel’s kitchens.

The event promises more than just a visual treat; it supports a noble cause.

St Luke’s Hospice, dedicated to offering specialised palliative care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses, will receive all proceeds from the event. Their services extend beyond medical care, providing comprehensive support, including home and in-patient nursing, psychosocial, spiritual and bereavement care, to patients and their families in the greater Cape Town area.

The Cellars-Hohenort extends its warm hospitality with an offering of tea and freshly baked scones, available to guests on the shaded terrace or the lush Hohenort lawns.

The gardens will be open from 11am to 5pm on the day of the event. Tickets are priced at R160 per person, with complimentary entry for children under 12 years.
