Mood boards

Art director Hema Nana shows us how she used mood boards for decor inspiration

My husband and I purchased a semi-complete house late last year. The structure was complete but the flooring, bathrooms and kitchen needed a lot of work. I preferred this as most of the other houses we had seen needed renovating anyway. This way we could have it done according to our budget and style.

I’m not an interior designer and hadn’t taken on anything like this before so I decided creating a mood board for each room was a safe bet. I started by collecting images I liked from magazines and used them as inspiration. I then took pictures in stores and scoured the Internet. As time went by the boards started filling up. Creating the boards helped a lot as many of our decisions regarding the overall look was inspired by them. Also, as my husband struggles to visualise things this was the best way for him to get an idea of the finished room.

Here are a few examples of my mood boards:

Let me know if you also created mood boards to fuel your decor inspiration, I would love to see them.
