A feast for the senses: Don’t miss Design Joburg

Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View presented by Sanlam Private Wealth, flips the traditional notion of a decor and design exhibition on its head!

For the third year running, South Africa’s best designers, architects and style influencers will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into Africa’s hotspot for the most innovative and covetable interiors. Presented by Sanlam Private Wealth, here are just some of the Design Joburg highlights you shouldn’t miss:

KOHLER Theatre

The headline addition to the show, KOHLER Theatre’s auditorium space has been designed by the show’s creative directors and leading flooring brand Belgotex. It will host the internationally acclaimed designers Michael Anastassiades and Yinka Ilori (courtesy of SA Tourism and KOHLER respectively) on the show’s opening day.

During the remainder of the weekend local and continental design luminaries will share their insights at not-to-be-missed talks.

CoLabs

Stellar designers will collaborate with some of South Africa’s top-drawer brands, artisans and suppliers to create room sets. The line-up of designers for this year’s CoLabs includes Dylan Thomaz, Fanie van Zyl, Julia Day, Nelson Kubheka, Tuami Zulu and Wendy Douglas.

SPA ZAR

Curated by Source IBA’s Mardre Meyer in partnership with SA Tourism, SPA ZAR will feature a selection of hand-picked creatives from multiple disciplines. Both established and upcoming, these artisans will showcase their wares, presenting local design that’s primed to hit the commercial market.

A delicious fushion

Celebrated Soweto-born chef, Wandile Mabaso, has teamed up with Design Joburg this year. He’ll be bringing something fresh – entitled les créatifs – to the show’s Food Design table. Wandile’s menu promises a celebration of French-African fusion.

Following on its popularity last year, 2019’s Hendrick’s Gin Bar promises to be another stylish affair courtesy of Jo’burg’s pre-eminent furniture and interior design brand, Studio19.
