Up close and personal with interior decorator Jaco Vorster

We chat to interior decorator Jaco Vorster whose beautiful patio is on our May 2016 cover

jaco-vorsterIf you weren’t an interior decorator what would you be?
A dietician.

Your decor style in three words:
Eclectic, textured and free.

Instagram, Twitter or Facebook?
I’m a bit old school in that I only really use Facebook.

Your guilty pleasure?
There’s nothing quite like a good pasta.

What current trend is your favourite?
I absolutely love the palm tree pattern that is everywhere at the moment, from wall coverings to fabrics. It’s rather versatile and fun and can be used in a mix of spaces.

What inspires you?
Nature, colour and life’s frenetic buzz.

If you could do one thing to lift a room, what would it be?
Paint it in a new, trendy colour and refurbish old pieces of furniture by respraying them.

What is your favourite room in your home and why?
I love our bathroom. It’s very East meets the Med with my Chinese vanity and Spanish Floor tiles.

What decor rule needs to be retired and why?
Curtain tie backs. Enough said.

What’s your dream project?
To design and decorate a big lodge on a tropical island.
