Your bedroom is supposed to be quiet and calm, especially at nighttime. So when squeaks start to sound off, it becomes a problem. There could be a few reasons why your bed’s structure is giving off frustrating sounds at every toss and turn. Fortunately, they are not impossible to fix.

Tighten the loose bolts

Bed frames made of wood are usually held together with fasteners and bolts. Over time, these can become loose, leading to squeaking. A simple solution is to tighten any loose bolts with a screwdriver. This method is also applicable to metal frames. First, remove your mattress from the frame, then locate all the screws, nuts, and bolts on the bed frame.

Rotate your mattress

Another method you could use would be to rotate your mattress. It’s also the easiest step to do. Rotate your mattress to ensure the filling is evenly distributed between both sides. Mattress rotation should be done at least every three months to preserve the life of your mattress and ensure that it doesn’t start to dip and sag or squeak.

Try a mattress topper

A more cost-friendly method to ease bed squeaks is using a mattress topper. These are used to help absorb some of the noise made by squeaky springs. They are an affordable method until you get a new mattress. The mattress toppers will add an extra layer to your bed, creating a buffer zone. With this, the mattress can absorb some of the pressure caused by your body weight.

Replace the box spring

When you search high and low for where the squeak is coming from, you might have to take a close look at the box spring. The spring box controls the spring in and around your mattress. The longer you have and use your box spring, the more likely it is to develop a squeak over time.

Think of replacing your mattress

It may be a pricey alternative, but if you have tried all possible solutions to stabilising your mattress and frames, it may be time to replace your bed. A squeaky bed is going to consistently disrupt and annoy you in your sleep.
