Indoor plants

• Zygocactus. Their luminescent flowers contrast their succulent leaves strikingly.
• Streptocarpus is a classic. Easy to grow, and flower colours come in white, lilac, deep purples and blues.
• The ever trustworthy Peace Lily with its lush strappy green leaves and white lily flowers.

Ground covers or border plants

Try Felicia, Erigeron, Vygie species, Lobelia, Limonium, Geranium incanum, Gazania’s or Verbena.

Easy-to-care-for show-stopper shrubs

Salvia leucantha, Polygala ‘Sugar Baby’, Leptospermum, Selago, Euryops and Gaura.

Refreshing scent of Jasmine. My favourites are Star Jasmine and Jasminum polyanthum. Other colourful impressing climbers Black eyed Susan, Lonicera and Wisteria.

Trees

Dombeya (Wild pear) with its spectacular show of white flowers, Dais (Pom-Pom tree) with its sweetly scented mauve flowers and the Magnolia tree with its large tulip-shaped flowers in shades of pink and purple are great go-tos.

Plan ahead

Plant your favourite summer bulbs like Flame lily, Crocosmia, Dierama, Crinum and some Hemerocallis species.

Kitchen gardens

Carrots, cabbage, lettuce, peas, spinach, Swiss chard, basil, coriander and rocket are ready for planting. Always interplant your edibles with suitable companion plants like lavender andwild garlic to help ward off pests.
