Sure, you can pop out to the shops and buy your furry four-legged friends a treat they will love, but homemade is always better! Here are three doggy-friendly treats to whip up for your pooch at home. Bonus? They won’t break the bank!

Peanut butter doggy treats…

This recipe requires only 6 ingredients: peanut butter, pumpkin, almond flour, egg, cinnamon, and turmeric. If you decide to add the optional glaze, you’ll also need some coconut oil. These treats are a hit with the pooches thanks to their peanut butter flavour and softer texture, which also makes them a great choice for older dogs that prefer less crunchy treats.

NB: Make sure your peanut butter doesn’t contain any xylitol, which is toxic to dogs!

Frozen doggy treats, plus extra for cats!

These frozen doggo treats are a hit in the summer and they’re made with all natural dog-safe ingredients. Give your pooch something cold to snack on with these peanut butter, banana and yoghurt snacks. With an extra treat idea for cats, too!

NB: Make sure your broth/stock doesn’t contain any onion or garlic, which are toxic to dogs!

Sweet potato doggy treats…

This simple recipe is not only wallet-friendly, but also good for your furry friend. With only three ingredients, these treats are high in fibre and free of common allergens that affect dogs. Best of all, they cost less than R50 to make, so you can treat your pup without breaking the bank.

Mashed sweet potato, all natural peanut butter and ground oats

NB: If your dog is sensitive to wheat, use oatmeal flower!
