What does kindness mean to you? For food rescue and hunger relief organization SA Harvest, kindness is rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and delivering it to hungry South Africans all over the country. It means being kind to the earth by ensuring that food that would have ended up in landfills causing environmental damage through harmful methane gas emissions ends up in hungry tummies.

SA Harvest has been practising its special brand of kindness since October 2019. In the last three years of exponentially increased need due to Covid lockdowns, they’ve delivered over 31 million meals and rescued 9,3 million kilograms of food.

This World Kindness Day, SA Harvest is inviting you to practice kindness by adding them as a beneficiary on your MySchool/MyVillage/MyPlanet card. This simple act means that every time you swipe your card, you’ll be practising further acts of kindness – helping to save the planet and feed hungry people, all with one swipe. What’s more, for November, SA Harvest will receive R10 for every new sign-up! In SA Harvest’s world, R10 means that six children will receive a meal because their cost per meal is only R1,60 – which means even a small donation makes a big impact.
