Feng shui is one of the top 2020 home decor trends, but it’s never really gone out of style. Here are some tips on how to feng shui your kitchen…

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese art of organising and decorating a home to encourage positive energy (Chi) to help ensure good health and prosperity.

Feng shui principles tend to make interior design sense since there is a focus on improving the flow of a home while making it look calm and uncluttered.

The importance of the kitchen

It’s known as the heart of the home – even in feng shui.

Feng shui consultant Cynthia Chomos says that, from a feng shui perspective, the kitchen relates to your health and wealth. She says that this is based on the premise that, as you nourish your body with healthy food, you are able to go out into the world to manifest money and resources for your life.

Here are some feng shui design principles for the kitchen…

Clean the stove

Feng shui expert Robyn Stevens says that the biggest symbol of prosperity in your home is the stove.

Stevens recommends keeping the stove top clean, making sure that all the burners and switches work and, because the burners represent your wealth-generating potential, she says that you should use all of them rather than just stick to one or two favourites.

Reflect the stove

Place a shiny kettle on the stove top.

According to Chomos, a shiny kettle reflects the burners on the stove and symbolically doubles your wealth potential.

Decorate with fresh fruit

Chomos recommends placing a bowl of fresh fruit in a bowl to symbolise the abundance of nature.

Kitchen colours

The most important element in the kitchen is the stove, a fire element. For this reason, feng shui consultant Rodika Tchi recommends supporting the fire element in the kitchen with colours like yellow, red, brown and white.

She says that you should avoid blue and black, which symbolise water and put the fire out.
