Jaco Vorster, a sales consultant at Weylandts, hung a collection of identical cement containers on the grey walls of his small garden in Observatory, Cape Town, and filled them with herbs.

HOW TO DO IT

“To create impact, stick to the same type of container and plant similar plants in each,” he says. “I hung these on nails, but for heavier containers, it’s best to drill holes and use rawl plugs and screws.”

You can use containers like these for growing vegetables and trailing plants, but as small containers dry out quickly, they need to be watered on a daily basis.

Jaco finished off his arrangement with a small water feature and rustic pitchforks.
