Evergreen plants are an invaluable component for many gardens and landscapes. They provide structure and colour throughout all the seasons. Shrubs that stay green, or keep their leaves all year, provide background interest to other plants, lending year-round interest to foundation plantings, beds, and garden borders.

Purple rhododendron

Rhododendrons are the standard landscape shrubs to have. Grown for the colourful clusters of bell-shaped flowers that appear in spring. This rhododendron variety is hardier than most, with elegant purple flowers and dark green, lance-shaped leaves. Purple is a suitable colour for your foundation plantings, borders, or as a focal point to your garden.

Boxwood

Boxwood shrubs are often used to add formal structure to landscapes. They can serve as hedges, container plants, and topiaries. These shrubs are among the best fast-growing evergreens, featuring glossy leaves that remain attractive throughout the year. Their compact, rounded shape makes them ideal for low hedging, container arrangements, and edging along pathways and borders.

Azalea

Another variation of the Rhododendron shrub, the Azalea is a popular landscape shrub, with colourful bell-shaped flowers that appear in spring. The red colour variation extends the bloom season, producing lipstick-red flowers in spring and again from mid-summer through the first winter frost. Plant this broadleaf evergreen as hedging, in mass plantings, or around the pathway of your garden.

Viburnum

This semi-evergreen shrub option makes for a lovely, more compact privacy hedge that’s perfect for screening outdoor rooms. The plant features abundant clusters of small, popcorn ball-shaped blooms that line each branch in the spring. Its leaves turn vibrant shades of red and purple during autumn. This particular variety flowers earlier than others of its kind and is more tolerant of heat and drought once it is established. Just grow it in partial to full sunlight.
