Baby sun rose (Mesembryanthemum cordifolium) is a mat-forming, creeping perennial herb in the ice plant family. It grows flat on the ground from a base to create a carpet of herbs. The Latin name for the plant’s heart-shaped leaves means “middle-embryo flower.” It has single, brilliant pink to purplish blooms that open during the day but stay closed at night, and it grows in flat clumps on the ground from a woody base.
