The traditional way of growing vegetables is to buy seeds ahead of the season, then start sowing them in spring. Many vegetable growers have done this from time to time. However, there is another way to grow plants from seed if you want to take a step back away from a rigorous, controlled schedule of buying seeds and enjoy getting some vegetables for free. The answer to this is self-seeding vegetables.
Here are self-seeding vegetables to consider adding to your garden.
Arugula
Growing arugula veggies is a quick and easy way to spice up your salads, thanks to the plant’s peppery leaves. Arugula is one of these fast-growing vegetables that can be sown from spring to early summer. These veggies can be harvested in 4-6 weeks. Annual arugula often bolts in warm temperatures due to a lack of moisture. The leaves turn bitter after the plant starts flowering; however, there are benefits if you allow plants to go to seed. These vegetables will readily self-seed and provide you with new plants for free. The new plants may be smaller than the originals, but will still provide more-than-adequate pickings of spicy leaves.

Swiss chard
Chard is a stunning vegetable to grow, as it brings a somewhat ornamental look to your vegetable garden. You can choose which variation of chard to plant with different stem colours. You can grow Swiss chard year-round in mild climates. These veggies are biennial plants, so they will flower and self-seed in their second year for new chard plants to enjoy.

Radishes
You can’t talk about fast-growing veggies and not mention radishes. Radishes often feature near the top of the list when discussing such vegetables. You can grow radishes for many months, sowing from spring through to early fall, and the seeds are quick to germinate. The plants will be sown in spring and will likely bolt when the temperatures rise in summer.
