Standout bright shades for your garden this autumn

These are sometimes referred to as evergreen plants, because they don’t actually lose their bright colours during the change of seasons. These plants stand out in a garden because their foliage is bright and vivid with rich-coloured leaves that are a feature all on their own.

Polka dot plant

Polka dot plants are always a crowd pleaser because they are so colourful and easy to grow. Their pink, red or white-patterned leaves shine all season, either in the sun or shady areas, hot or cool weather, and even indoors as a houseplant. You could grow polka dot plants even as filler in your patio containers, or plant them in the garden to brighten up the spot with colour. Other than water, they require little to no maintenance through the growing season.

Shade-loving coleus plants are a gardener’s favourite, especially for the autumn season. Coleus rely on their fabulous foliage to keep the garden in colour from spring straight through autumn. So if you don’t want to fuss much with your annuals in autumn, grow Coleus, which are super strong growers and set few to no flowers, so you won’t have to keep pinching them to keep the plants looking great all season.

Also known as the Amelanchier, this small tree is attractive during all seasons, but autumn is when it shows off its best features. Their star-shaped leaves blossom with a yellowish green that fits right into the autumn season colours. Hopefully, your garden is well-conditioned to grow these deciduous plants, as they prefer moist but well-drained neutral soil with full sun to partial shade.
