Spring is a season full of renewals, but it can also bring sniffles, sneezes, and restless nights. A few simple tweaks to your routine can make a world of difference. Here are a few tips on how to keep your home allergy-friendly and have a blissful, uninterrupted spring.
What causes seasonal allergies?
It may seem impossible to escape the pollen, mould, and other allergens that set off fits of sneezing, coughing, stuffiness, and watery eyes. Seasonal allergies arise when your immune system reacts excessively to environmental triggers. These allergies often become more pronounced in spring. However, you can take measures to protect your home.

Avoid high exposure to pollen
When the weather is getting warm, avoid doing pollen-spreading tasks in the garden yourself. If you are easily infected by allergens, you should stay away from flowers and plants that easily release pollen. People with seasonal allergies should avoid irritants to stay on the safe side.
Keep your home pollen-free
In spring, when pollen counts are high, keep your doors and windows closed, especially on windy days. Staying indoors is best, particularly during the afternoons and evenings when pollen levels peak. Additionally, make sure to wash off any pollen before going to bed. The fresh spring breeze can carry pollen onto your skin, hair, and bedding. A quick rinse or a change of sheets can help keep allergens and sneezing at bay.
Pet-proof your sleep zone
We all love our pets, but sometimes they can cause more harm than good. This is more especially for people who are prone to seasonal allergies. They play around the garden and, in doing so, collect pollen all around their fur. Try to keep your pets out of the bedroom to reduce pet dander on your pillows and blankets. To be on the safe side, give your pillows and duvet a shake before making your bed to keep allergens at a minimum.
Know your allergies
A simple blood test or a visit to the doctor’s office can identify what you’re allergic to. Identifying these allergens is important to developing an effective treatment plan. Ask your doctor about treatment options and follow that treatment plan to keep yourself safe.
