To make the most of the tight space outdoors, the owners of this Cape Town home approached Christine Bekker of Hocus Interior Design Studio and asked her to design a multi-functional area they can enjoy all year round.

“Once we’d decided on a Moroccan theme, we came up with the idea of a decked gazebo,” explains Christine. “We designed suspended timber seats so that we could have a retractable floor underneath. This slides back to reveal a Jacuzzi installed by Sauna & Decks for Africa – perfect for relaxing on balmy evenings.”

For the cooler seasons, the Progress Group fitted a stone fireplace with a metal chimney. A canopy operated by remote control can also be opened or closed depending on the weather. In keeping with the exotic theme, Christine filled the benches with richly patterned cushions and introduced ceramic stools and metal lanterns.
