Get creative with a DIY project

Bring your creativity to the front. Give new life to an old piece of furniture or clothing by creating something new with items you have lying around in your home or at a vintage market. The stuff you create can be donated to charities or simply kept for yourself. Do what you can with the resources you have to help the environment.

Reduce your plastic

With July being plastic-free month, it’s only natural to do your part in reducing plastic waste. Encourage everyone around you to take part in this initiative to help out during Mandela Day. Reducing your plastic use in your everyday life helps you and your family lower your carbon footprint and encourages a greener environment. It may seem like an impossible feat, as almost everything is made of or wrapped in plastic. But reducing your plastic use is easier than you think. With the ever-growing plastic pollution issue, there’s no better time to make a change this Mandela Day.

Sort out recyclables

To do more than just pick up plastics. Why not expand more on that and sort out recyclables? You can also sort out your recyclable trash at home and drop it off at a recycling depot. From plastics, paper, cans and even glass. Be sure to have the items in recyclable condition.

Donate the things you no longer use

Many charities are ready to accept donations. This Mandela Day, why not do a good deed by giving away items you no longer need? Take your unwanted clothing, homeware and other unwanted items no longer in use, and donate them to a hospice or a local charity organisation. It’s sustainable and a great way to clear up some space whilst doing some good.
