Optimise the use of space and create a stunning, functional DIY corner bookshelf. A corner bookshelf allows you to make the most of your space, providing storage for books, decorative items or other belongings you might have. A simple DIY project is always a win.

What you’ll need:

Tools

  • Saw
  • Orbital sanding paper discs
  • Power drill
  • Pocket hole jig
  • Wood stain furniture paint
  • Paintbrush and sponge roller
  • Measuring tape
  • Safety gear, gloves, glasses, etc

Materials

  • 2x 22mm Pine timber 2.4 m

Instructions

1. Cut all your wood to size, making straight cuts using your circular saw. Always wear appropriate safety gear when working with power tools.

2. Using your orbital sanding paper. Sand all the edges, surfaces, and wood filler until smooth. Wipe away excess wood dust.

3. Paint the wood shelves you just cut. Make use of the paintbrush and sponge roller tray set. Use any colour stain or paint you wish to cover the side timber that will hold the bookshelf upright. Apply two coats and allow for drying time between coats.

4. Using a pocket hole jig set to the correct thickness of the wood, insert the correctly set collar drill and clamp your wood in the jig. Drill the pocket holes on the underside of the shelf, placing 2 pocket holes on the long edge of the shelf and another two on the other side. Please note that all drilled pocket holes must be exactly on the same side of each shelf for securing later.

5. Evenly space out the shelves along the one upright pine backing using a tape measure and a marker with a pencil. A space of 350mm is required between each shelf. Use a spreader clamp to hold it into place and then drive the pocket screws into place. Make sure to tighten the screws to secure the shelf to an upright backing side.

6. Once all the pocket holes are secured, the DIY corner bookshelf is complete and ready for home books and other appropriate ornaments.
