In the age of sustainability and healthy living, many people strongly desire homegrown produce at their disposal year-round. However, if you reside in a smaller home, outdoor gardening may not be an option. The good news is that indoor fruit and vegetable gardening is completely possible and fun. Whether you are just getting started or are an avid gardener, consider growing delicious edible plants indoors.
Hardy herbs
To grow herbs at home, you need to keep them in separate pots with bright, indirect sunlight. When seed shopping for herbs, pick out your personal favourite flavours to cook with, as they will be the perfect addition to your kitchen. Some favourite herbs to plant include: Basil, Mint and Thyme.

Carrots
A popular choice for indoor gardeners. Carrots are fairly easy to grow indoors. Just grab a deep pot filled with planter soil and scatter carrot seeds. If you keep the soil moist enough and the pot in a windowsill, your carrots will sprout within 14-17 days. Keep waiting around 60-80 days before harvesting your carrots.
Lettuce and other greens
Not surprisingly, these are some of the best plants to grow. Lettuce and other greens, such as kale, are one of the easiest greens to opt for when growing edibles in your home. Everyone loves being able to pick these fresh greens to toss into a salad, a smoothie or any recipe. If you trim lettuce leaves, the plants will often grow back for a second round.
Chili peppers
Turn to Chili peppers when opting to grow edible indoor plants. They offer pops of colour among green leaves. You can choose from varieties suited to an indoor environment, like some jalapenos or habanero peppers. Something to note is that it isn’t easy to grow Chili peppers indoors, as it is with other edible plants. It’s necessary to place the pepper plant pot on a seedling heating mat, which will keep the soil warm. Similar to most plants, you should avoid overwatering your peppers.
