During winter, the indoor air gets a lot drier and can cause many houseplants to turn dry and crispy. You can, however, adjust your plant care regimen in winter, protecting your humidity-loving plants from damage.
These tips will help your plants survive the winter.
Winter survival tips for your houseplants
Water the plants deeply
It is recommended to water your houseplants only when the soil feels dry when touched. Deep watering ensures plant roots get the water they need and keeps potting mixes from drying out quickly in winter. When pots are allowed to dry out, this makes it easier for the water to flow quickly and reach the roots. Make sure the potting soil absorbs all the water.
Increase the humidity
Many tropical houseplants need extra humidity throughout the year to keep their leaves from drying. This is why it is essential to provide your plants with a humidity boost in winter. There are many alternative ways to increase humidity in your home. A humidity tray is a great start. Use any shallow dish that can hold a deep layer of small stones. Fill it with water and place the tray under your most susceptible plants. A humidifier can also be a great alternative.

Group your plants together
Grouping plants keeps moisture concentrated around them. This helps create a climate with a higher humidity level and makes plant care a little easier. To push the humidity levels even higher, get a humidifier and place it around the grouped plants. This can help you get more use out of your humidifier.

Too much heat is bad
During winter, switching on heaters is going to be the thing. Always bear in mind that plants don’t like too much heat. Avoid placing plants near the heaters or places that could dry them out. That’s why it is wise to be cautious about plant placement and to move the plants around if need be.
