Unframed mirrors can serve their purpose, but they often appear dull and lacking visual appeal. Adding a frame to a wall-mounted mirror is an easy and cost-effective way to enhance its appearance and transform the aesthetic of your space to match your desired style.

With just a heavy-duty adhesive tape that bonds to glass, this DIY project requires no nails, screws, or other fasteners to frame the mirror. With this DIY mirror frame guide, your mirrors can look nice in any room you place them.

What you’ll need

Materials

  • Tape measure
  • Duct tape
  • A level
  • A paintbrush or spray gun
  • Pencil
  • Paint

Steps to follow

Step 1: Measure the mirror

The first step is to measure your mirror with a tape measure to determine the amount of trim needed. Position the edge of the mirror to determine the dimensions of your mirror. The measurements will depend on the size of your mirror and how you frame it.

Step 2: Use your duct tape

Using your duct tape, measure and cut it at a 45-degree angle to achieve the desired length for framing your mirror. Repeat this step until you are satisfied with the amount of duct tape applied. Be sure to tape the sides of the mirror separately. It can be helpful to lay the mirror flat to ensure everything lines up correctly before you hang the mirror frame.

Step 3: Spray gun or paint

Spray gun or paint the duct-taped mirror sides. This stage can be skipped, as it depends on the colour you want your mirror to look like.

Step 4: Install the mirror frame

After you have painted or sprayed your mirror, allow it to dry completely. Next, install the mirror frame in your desired location. Use a level to ensure the frame is straight before proceeding with the installation. You can hang your mirror on the wall using glue or adhesive installation tape. Make sure everything is secure and properly in place.

Step 5: Touch up the frame

After the mirror frame has been successfully installed. Do some touch-ups to make sure the mirror remains clean. You can also get creative and customise your mirror frame.
