An organised home takes effort, but clever systems make the job much easier. Set them up thoughtfully, and have a well-oiled house within your reach with these tips.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to setting up and maintaining an organised home. But one thing all organised homes have in common is that they save time and prevent stress.
Living areas
Living spaces can quickly become cluttered with everyone’s belongings. Adding shelves above a built-in seat makes an attractive feature. You should add baskets for those bits and pieces that everyone keeps in the living room. When designing living rooms for a family home, coffee tables with drawers underneath or a shelf are key. Big trays on your coffee tables can also keep loose items organised and avoid smaller items from looking messy.

Kitchen areas
Make kitchen hardware work hard; this allows you to have access to everything, from cupboards to drawers. Tall, slim or pull-out pantry drawers that fit neatly between your cabinet or fridge. Turn tricky corner cupboards into handy spots corner drawers, under-sink baskets and pull-out plate racks.
Home office area
Every piece of paper you bring into your home office is effectively a to-do item, so you will need some good collecting cabinets. You can put work notes or school notes on different boards above racks in your office. This way, everyone in your family can easily locate items within the space. Include tall cupboards in the office space to allow you easy access. Build overhead cabinets right up to the ceiling to maximise storage.

Bathroom
Shaving cabinets provide critical storage for toiletries. Drawers allow you to avoid wasted space in the out-of-reach section of cupboards, as well as providing a birds-eye-view of the drawer contents, making it much easier to find things. Think of everything that has to be accommodated in the bathroom.
Laundry
One of the hardest-working elements in any laundry would be the hanging rail, where you can place ironed clothes. It’s an inclusion you’ll never regret. Put your kids to work; they can take the baskets to their room and put everything away by themselves. Keep it clean and tidy so it is not towering around the room. Allocate cupboard space in your laundry to hide the pile away when you need to.
