The #DontMoveImprove makeover competition winners are…

A big thank you to everyone who sent in their beautiful home and garden makeovers, we were overwhelmed by a massive amount of entries and all were of an extremely high standard

Needless to say, choosing the winner was no easy task. In the end we narrowed it down to a handful of our favourites and the team voted on their top two. So, without any further ado, here are the first and second place winners.

Winner: Alethea Brown for her kitchen makeover

Alethea is the lucky winner of a five-night stay for four at Breedezicht Estate worth R10 000.

What impressed us about Alethea Brown’s renovated kitchen was her clever use of finishes. While the new design is slick and contemporary, there’s a wonderfully warm atmosphere created by the stone clad wall, the timber cabinets and the flooring. We also loved the way she opened up the kitchen to the dining room linking the areas with a long narrow island and charcoal walls. Great finishing touches include stylish pendant lights, easy-to-clean countertops and mod bar stools. The inclusion of practical features such as the microwave near the dining counter and a prep bowl close to the hob must make this kitchen a dream to work in.

Second prize: Cherise Dennis for her bathroom makeover

Cherise won a Linen House hamper to the value of R4 000

Cherise Dennis’s update of her tiny bathroom is brilliant. She used the same layout so that the plumbing didn’t have to be moved. But what makes the bathroom seem much larger is her inclusion of a space-saving, wall-mounted toilet and a basin on a floating shelf in one corner. She cleverly placed another shelf below for storage baskets. The large format floor tiles also visually stretch the area while the textured tiles on the walls keep the look light and fresh without looking bland. Recessing the blind into the window is also space enhancing. It’s a wonderful example of what can be done in a tiny space.
