Kid’s bedroom idea: add clever storage space

“My brief for designing James’s room was very clear,” says Durban interior decorator Lisa Walters, “storage, practicality and nothing too precious or delicate”

A large floor-to-ceiling storage unit takes care of toys and books and the sliding ladder makes packing away a fun chore. Lisa also included drawers in the bed bases and a chest of small drawers, from Block and Chisel Interiors, for knick-knacks instead of a bedside table. “The red, navy and white palette doesn’t show marks and spills. The wallpaper, Chesapeake by Ralph Lauren from St Leger & Viney, was a starting point,” she says.octoberchildrensrooms06gh

“It’s also important to create areas within the room for playing, doing puzzles and reading, so we included a table and red chairs and a stack of floor cushions covered in fun, patterned fabrics.”
